THE PARTNERS OF THE 10th INTERNATIONAL DEBUT FILM FESTIVAL OF CINEMATOGRAPHY «SPIRIT OF FIRE» :

From February 24 to March 1, 2012, The 10th jubilee International Debut Film Festival “The Spirit of Fire” will take place in Khanti-Mansiisk.

The festival will be opened on the 25th of February, Saturday, in the Center of Culture and Theatre “Yugra-classic”. The solemn ceremony will be finished by the screening of the film “The Artist” by Michel Hazanavicius

The International competition program includes pictures made by the directors from France, Austria, Argentine, Rumania, Georgia, Portugal, Ukraine, Belgium and other countries. The best film debuts will be defined by the International jury headed by the wonderful French actor Pierre Richard with a subsequent delivery of traditional prizes: “Golden taiga”, “Silver taiga” and Bronze taiga” as well as a special prize of the jury.

In the competition program “Russian debuts-2011”, we shall show the brightest films of commencing directors. Traditionally their destiny will be decided on the results of the spectators’ vote. The best films will be awarded prizes “Golden taiga”, “Silver taiga” and “Bronze taiga”.

The program “Myths of the people of the North” comprises the retrospective of the films of the jury member, Icelandic director Fridrik Thor Fridriksson. The second part of the program presents a series of documentaries devoted to Khants and Mansis people. Forty years ago they were filmed by the director Lennart Meri who later became the first president of Estonia.

A special program «Cinema for everybody” will traditionally involve disabled people into the creative process and enable them to take an active part in the festival life.

The club of children’s and youth films “Your cinema” will continue its work within the framework of the festival and will show the program of feature and cartoon films for small spectators and youth audience.

The government of the Russian Federation declared the year 2012 the year of music. We prepared a program “Music in the cinema” which comprises the best musical films of world and Russian film repertoire. The films “We are from the jazz” and “A Winter day in Gagra” will be presented by the director Karen Shakhnazarov and the musical cartoon film “Maria- Mirabella” — by the composer Yevgeniy Doga.

In addition, a prize will be given to the debut director for the best music in the film. The winner will be defined by the jury represented by the composers Enry Lolashvili and Eugene Doga.

The year of the 200th anniversary of the 1812 Civil war declared the year of Russian history. This event will be marked by the retrospective “History of glory of the Russian State” with the screening of historical films such as “Peter-I”, “Admiral Ushakov”, “A Ballad of a Hussar” and others.

In the big hall of KTTs (Center of Culture and Theater), “The Day of family” will traditionally take place. Well-known cinematographic families will meet with spectators, and actor Leonid Yarmolnik and director Renat Davletyarov will present their new film “My Crazy family”.

Within the framework of the cycle of master-classes “Director presents his favorite film”, such directors as Karen Shakhnazarov, Pavel Chukhrai, Alexander Mitta, Fridrik Thor Fridriksson and Sergei Solovyov will speak about their favorite classical pictures.

In the program “Siberian euphoria”, the spectators will see films, winners of this year big International festivals”: “Yelena” by Andrei Zvyagintsev, “Midnight in Paris” by Woody Allen, “Melancholia” by Lars von Trier and “My Week with Marylin” by Simon Curtis.

The design of the jubilee festival is based on the composition after the famous self-portrait of the outstanding painter F.A. Malyavin with his family, one of the masterpieces of the exposition in Khanti-Mansiisk art museum. In the lobby of the Center of Culture and Arts, we shall organize the exhibition of posters devoted to the history of the festival.

On the 1st of March the jubilee debut film festival “The Spirit of Fire” will be closed by a solemn ceremony of awarding traditional and special prizes. At the closing ceremony, the spectators will see the picture “What if we all live together” with such stars as Pierre Richard, Geraldine Chaplin and Jane Fonda.
